Marcelo Ygnacio
US Navy
USS Arizona
My father, Marcelo Ygnacio was at Pearl Harbor on the USS Arizona. He was in the US Navy, in the Navy band.

I believe that my father was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his efforts on that day. President John Kennedy sent me a certificate honoring my father for his efforts in the war. It arrived in the mail on the day that Mr. Kennedy was killed.

My father was Filipino. My mother told me that he joined the US Navy when he was 16 and was a cabin boy when he was 12. I have a medal of my father's from the Spanish-American War.

My father was buried on Mother's Day in 1952. He succumbed due to injuries received at Pearl Harbor. I don't know much about what happened to my father or what he did on that day to be awarded a medal, but I would like him to be remembered for his efforts.
