My dad was aboard the USS Pennsylvania, and he said they were in dry dock on that day.  He was severly burned by a bomb flash and was in the hospital for 6 months.  Upon recovery, he was honorably discharged and sent home.  He received disability for the greater part of his life.  He was receiving 100% at the time of his death in 1984  in Dallas Texas. 

He received the Purple Heart and numerous other medals.
