Jim Triplett was born on October 24, 1920 in Wichita, KS.  He joined the US Navy on February 11, 1938 at San Diego.  He reported to San Diego Training Station and served on the USS Louisville.

In 1940, he transferred to Ford Island.  On December 7, 1941, he was preparing to leave for Staten when the Japanese bombed them.  He went to man a BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle) on the roof.  About three months later he went aboard the USS Capan in the war zone island to island.  After the war, he went on the USS Stembel during the Korean Conflict.

Jim earned nine awards and the Good Conduct Medal.  Jim retired on June 16, 1959 as a chief boatswain mate.

Jim married Bertha in January 1946 and they have four children, eleven grandchildren and one great-grandson.  Jim was a truck driver from 1959 until 1982, retiring from the Teamsters Union.  Presently his is just taking life easy.
