Howard Asa Price, Jr.
US Navy - Storekeeper2
USS Maryland
I was aboard the USS Maryland.  I was actually reading the comics when General Quarters sounded.  My General Quarters assignment was to feed ammunition up a conveyer belt to the top deck.  I worked in the supply department.  I was not injured, but did see quite a bit of injured.

Out my porthole, things were blowing up everywhere.  Some thought it was a drill, but I assured them it was not.  The USS Oklahoma was docked next to my ship, and it sunk.  Several sailors were saved by our ship and shipmates as the Oklahoma sunk.  The torpedoes hit the Oklahoma first, instead of the Maryland.

Sundays have never been the same to me since.

Mr. Price turned 82 years old on March 29, 2001.  He is still working on his farm in Coldwater Mississippi.
