Julius A. Plaat
US Army
Julius Plaat was a private first class in the Army assigned to a coastal artillery battery.  Plaat and a friend were tossing around a football when Japanese planes appeared overhead and started dropping bombs.  He dived under a car for cover before crawling to his barracks, grabbing his combat gear and crawling back out.  Seconds later, a barracks behind him blew up.
