US Navy
USS Reid
I was on the destroyer USS REID (DD369).  We could not see the battleships from where we were tied up in the harbor but I do remember when the Arizona blew up although we couldn't see it.  But three days later when we came back in the harbor for fuel we steamed VERY SLOW past the battleships and saw the terrible destruction.  A sight I will never forget.

When I visited the Arizona Memorial and stood transfixed looking at marble wall of names it was hard to keep the tears back even though I didn't know any of them personally.  But they were fellow sailors.
