Ford Island
I was on Ford Island at the time of the bombing.  The Japs strafed us and bombed us, but it was a pretty good-sized island.  I had been over there over a year before.  They ran all of us into the mess hall and had us get under the tables so we would not get hit with the bullets.  They then came in the mess hall and asked for volunteers.  I was assigned to a machine gun on top of the tower out on the runway.

By that time, the second wave of bombers had ended so I did not get a chance to shoot any down.  I had my hopes up, but it was not to be.
