Joseph Raymond Giovenazzo was born April 4, 1916 in Johnstown, PA. He was the oldest child of George and Concetta Giovenazzo. Approximately 2 weeks before the Dec. 7th attack, he was transferred from the USS Arizona to the USS Vestal. Prior to being transferred to the Vestal, he served on the Arizona with his younger brother, Michael J. Giovenazzo, whose body remains entombed on the Arizona. Joseph was active in numerous organizations including USS Arizona Crew-Kin, Pearl Harbor Survivors Assoc., Chief Petty Officer's Assoc. and many more. Joseph died June 2, 1999. He is missed terribly by his family and friends. |
